Chopbiscuit on the road dining review: Westin hotel (room service) - St. Louis, MO

Welcome to another delightful ad hoc Chopbiscuit inspection of some of the USA's most frequented saloons, dining halls, dive bars, food trucks, in-room dining and high end bistro's. At least one of your humble contributors is on the road virtually every week and luckily have the opportunity to dine at some of the finest institutions and loathsome watering holes known to man. Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, some deity would permit us to be pirates and savage our nutriment.

I like eating. It fascinates me. I sit and look at the food for hours. I often eat while laying down in my hotel room with a bib in my lap and my outlook calendar open. Eating is my tweeting, except it's much cooler. Food is often made into the celebrity of carnage, which makes us appear to be pompous and scarce in regards to the act of eating itself. You eat because you fuel. I eat because I'm hungry. I eat because it's my job. I go out to these establishments to consume their lineups.

I then judge it.

So, I was a little tired for a dinner last night. After powering through a work day at the Four Seasons Hotel yesterday, I was done and decided to skip out on a nice dinner and settle for some in-room dining. What can you say about in-room dining, except, that it's......in-room dining.

After perusing through the menu and looking at options such as the $32 shrimp and crab spaghetti and the $46 dollar New York Steak and Chumash - I decided to keep it simple and high calorie style with a pan roasted chicken breast with boursin cream sauce and asparagus followed by a caramel apple pie with ice cream. The chicken had a decent taste and was actually pretty tender. The asparagus had a nice smoky flavor of being grilled over charcoal. It was pretty standard room service fare, including the saran wrapped iced water and the covered plate presented to you like a king from the waiter/waitress.  Now I've had room service at some of the most swankiest hotels in the world and it's always, meh. I've never had the in-room dining experience where I've been blown away. Maybe it's because I'm wearing mesh shorts, with my socks thrown on the floor while cyphering through a day's worth of work emails.

I always love that the bill would serve an entire family for a week and I'm left in the hotel room, bloated and dissatisfied. Maybe somebody, someday will get the in-room dining concept and blow it out of the water. Or, maybe it's just something that most people view as simply fuel to get them through their work and help them pass out with the TV on. Either way it's the way I've spent many O' dinner's on the road.
